While the SPORT
QUATTRO concept was expected Audi had another surprise in store – the Nanuk
concept that blends elements of a supercar and SUV
and is an evolution of the Ital design Parkour concept shown at the last Geneva
show. This is a high-performance diesel sports car with the V10 TDI engine
mounted mid-ships developing 544 bhp of power. Torque is a full-fat 1000Nm,
peaking at just 1500rpm, and gives the 1900kg concept a 0-100kmph time of 3.8
seconds and a top speed of 302 kph. Power goes to all four wheels via a beefed
up twin-clutch S tronic transmission.
The Nanuk, which is an
Eskimo word for Polar bear, runs on huge 22-inch wheels and ride height can be
raised by 70mm making it a supercar that can also climb a few rocks, or flatten
the beach. There’s four-wheel steering for improved maneuverability at
low speeds and better stability at higher speeds.
Like the Sport Quattro the
Nanuk previews the new Audi grille which is more three-dimensional while the
daytime running lamps double up as indicators. The vertical fins on the intakes
is a new take on the sideblades of the R8. A production version is unlikely but
Audi claims the Nanuk opens a new chapter in their design language.
It looks good. Wonder how it will do with our snowsqually weather up here... :-^
