Faster and sharper limited-edition Mini
JCW
The JOHN COOPER WORKS GP is the fastest Mini
production model ever, and a last hurrah for the current-generation hatch
before it’s replaced next autumn.
This Power is coming from a new model
of the the regular JCW 1.6-liter turbo engine , which was modified to produce
215bhp - 7bhp more.
Mini has also binned the rear seats to reduce
weight, and upgraded the suspension, tyres and brakes.
sure enough, the GP stays flat in
corners and feels both agile and engaging. the engine also has
massive mid-range grunt.
the one big question mark is road manners;
our drive was exclusively on track. that said, the GP was able to ride kerbs
without them thumping into the cabin or deflecting the car off course in the way
they would in lesser Minis.
At £28,790, the GP carries a hefty £6335
premium over the regular JCW, but production will be limited to just 2000 cars worldwide,
so it should hold its value well.
fantastic hot hatches such as the BMW M135i
and renault Mégane Cup might make more sense, but the GP has its own appeal.
Verdict : Big fun for big money
What a car, the GP is a must own at some point in my life.
