Will
the BMW Gran Lusso Coupé signal the revival of the 8 Series? BMW RECENTLY
showcased their one-off Gran Lusso Coupé and, immediately, it was touted by
many to be the next 8 Series. The Gran Lusso Coupé has been designed by
Pininfarina, its design harking back to the 850i from 1990 to many minds. As
for the powerplant, BMW have a range ready to choose from. Their
4.4-litre, twin-turbo V8 offering 560-575 PS may be the jewel in the
M-division’s crown, but BMW also have a 6.0-litre, twin-turbo V12 in their
760Li. They have the ability and technology to create a high-revving,
supercar-dismissing V12 performance engine, which would also tick all the
necessary boxes for the green brigade, if they see fit. There's doubt that the
M6 is not their ultimate assault tool. They are indeed capable of better in an
automotive world hamstrung by emission and efficiency requirements. However, if
they decide to pull something out of Munich’s hat, this would be what shows up.

ReplyDeleteAn 8 serie with 12 cilinders back in the 90's had 300HP and weighed around 300kg more than the altima (wich has about 180HP) when comparing the top models you've got 100HP more for the 8 series wich has a friction coefficient of 0.29 and rear wheels that join the steering action to add for speed. This car really was and still is everything but slow. You should really consider driving one!
